| Not
all knee replacements last forever and some will need
to be re-done. The most common reasons for revision
surgery are infection, stiffness, instability, loosening
of the metal parts or wear of the plastic part of the
artificial joint.
Surgery
is often complex and rehabilitation afterwards much
longer than after the first knee replacement. The complication
rate is also much higher and patient satisfaction less
than after the first knee replacement.
